Our values in Logan, Todd, & Warren Counties have been with us for generations. I work everyday to make certain that our traditional way of life is kept intact while we constantly charge towards progress for our communities.
We must always stay committed to our men and women in uniform. As they work together to protect us, we must work together to secure a better future for them and their families. Our pride and prayers are with them.
I believe in working together for a stronger community and a better Kentucky. As Thomas Jefferson said, “Every difference of opinion is not a difference of principle.” The voters deserve a government that works toward the greater good for all of Kentucky and not just a select few. Elected officials should give them no less.
I am a woman of faith and Christian values, knowing that with God’s guidance, we can build a stronger future for all Kentuckians.
I continue to support our men and women in uniform. I have been a leader in passing bills that help our soldiers and military families. I passed the Military Family Assistance Trust Fund, which covers expenses for families who struggle while their loved ones are deployed. I was a leader in passing the “Hiring Kentucky Heroes Act,” which gives hiring preferences to veterans who apply for State Government employment. I was a strong voice in passing the Military Tuition Waiver Program, which waives college tuition costs for veterans, soldiers, and their immediate family. I helped craft and pass legislation that makes it easier for children of military families to transfer between elementary, middle and high schools. Soldiers and their families have no stronger advocate than myself.
A good job is the foundation of a strong family, a strong community, and a strong country. We must keep working to create and keep good-paying jobs here in Kentucky.
A lifetime of work earns you a retirement of dignity and we should not compromise our country or state's retirement programs in the name of reform. I believe it's morally wrong to deny anyone their pension or healthcare benefits that they have worked for all of their lives.
I strongly believe in reducing taxes and making Kentucky more accountable and business-friendly. We must pass a State budget on time, one that doesn’t raise any new taxes.Since I have been in office, I have worked to cut state government spending, and today, state borrowing is at its lowest level in decades. I protected Medicade funding in the State budget, and I made sure there was no reduction for local students who are part of the KEES College Program.I have stood up to both parties and opposed new taxes that were going to be placed on farmers. I remain committed to cutting taxes and making government more accountable.
Technology effects every part of our lives and we must constantly move our understanding of technology forward to protect citizens, promote economic development, and to educate our children so they can be competitive in the workplace. I have worked to ensure that technology remains a priority by creating and leading as the first chair of the House Special Committee on Information Technology and Advanced Communications.
The success of Todd and Logan Counties depends upon carefully planned development strategies that improve our economic, infrastructure and social growth. I have encouraged partnerships that bring business to our region, secured funding for road projects and fire departments, and provided paths to workplace excellence with innovative schools.
Kentucky must work towards gains in energy independence. We must promote local sources of energy including coal, gas and renewable resources.
